Ba Na Hills is a mountaintop resort in the Truong Son range, about 25 km west of Da Nang and at roughly 1,400 m. Since the 2010s it has been run as Sun World Ba Na Hills, a large tourist complex with a long cable car, the Golden Bridge held up by two giant stone hands, a French-style village, gardens and a pagoda. A short history
The French founded Ba Na as a hill station in the early 20th century, to escape the heat of the coast. At its peak there were around 200 villas, clubs and restaurants, and the last stretch up the mountain was done in sedan chairs carried by Vietnamese porters. Most of it was abandoned after the French left, and the villas fell into ruin. Roads were poor for decades, and the resort was a modest local holiday spot.
That changed with the cable car, which Guinness World Records recognised in 2009 as the longest and highest non-stop line, and with the Golden Bridge, which opened in 2018 and made the place globally famous.
What there is to see
The cable car
The ride from the base to the summit is long, steep and spectacular on a clear day, over forest and gullies. It is the main way up.
The Golden Bridge
A curving walkway held by two oversized stone hands, with views of the hillside. It is the most photographed spot, and it is included in the ticket. It is crowded from late morning.
The French Village
A replica of a European village with squares, cafes and a fake castle atmosphere. It is not the original hill station, but it is the main place to eat and walk.
Linh Ung Pagoda and the Buddha
A Buddhist temple complex with a tall white Buddha statue visible from far away. It is quieter than the rest of the site.
Fantasy Park and rides
An indoor games and rides area, which is useful on wet days and with children.
Tickets and hours in 2026
- Adults and children over 1.3 to 1.4 m: about 1,000,000₫.
- Children 1.0 to 1.4 m: about 800,000₫. Under 1 m is free.
- With buffet lunch: about 1,300,000₫.
- Evening ticket after 15:00: about 1,050,000₫, with dinner.
- Open about 8:00 to 22:00. Tickets are valid for one to three days.
Prices are from a September 2026 listing and the official site, and resellers charge different amounts. Da Nang residents pay less. Check the day’s hours before you go.
How to avoid the crowds
Be at the cable car when it opens, around 8:00, and go straight to the Golden Bridge, then the French Village after the tour groups arrive. Weekdays are quieter than weekends and holidays. Clouds often cover the hilltop by midday, so the morning is also the clearest.
Weather and what to wear
The top is cooler than the coast by several degrees, and it is often foggy or rainy. Bring a light jacket and a rain layer, and shoes with grip. The best months for clear weather in Da Nang are February to May.
Getting there
From Da Nang, the road is about 25 km and takes 40 to 60 minutes. From Hoi An it takes 1¼ to 1¾ hours. A free shuttle bus runs from central Da Nang (since August 2026), and taxis and private cars are the alternative. See the Hoi An guide if you are based there.

If the complex is too much, Hue and its Imperial Citadel is a quieter history day trip, about 3 hours from Da Nang, and Bach Ma National Park offers cool air without the rides.
