Where it is

Long Thanh International Airport is in Long Thanh, Dong Nai, about 40 km east of central Saigon, beside the Ho Chi Minh City–Long Thanh–Dau Giay expressway. It’s being built in phases; the first phase is designed for around 25 million passengers a year.

Why it matters for the coast

From Tan Son Nhat, every trip to the beach starts by crossing Saigon. From Long Thanh you’re already on the expressway heading east, so the coast is noticeably closer: see Long Thanh to Vung Tau, Long Thanh to Ho Tram and Long Thanh to Mui Ne. NovaWorld Phan Thiet is about 2¼ to 3 hours from Long Thanh. Going into the city instead? Long Thanh to Saigon. The new Ben Luc–Long Thanh expressway, fully open since October 2026, also links it to the Mekong Delta without going through the city.

Long Thanh questions

Is Long Thanh airport open?

Not for regular flights. The airport had a ceremonial technical opening in December 2025, and commercial operations are targeted for December 2026. That date has moved before, so check your ticket: if it says SGN, you land at Tan Son Nhat.

Can I book a transfer from Long Thanh now?

Which is closer to Vung Tau and Mui Ne, Long Thanh or Tan Son Nhat?
