Meeting your driver
- Before you fly, you get an email confirming your booking. The evening before pickup, we send your driver’s name, photo, car plate and phone number.
- When you land, connect to the free airport wifi and open WhatsApp. Your driver will have messaged to say they’re waiting.
- Out of arrivals, look for your name on a sign in the waiting area outside the doors. The driver helps with your bags and walks you to the car.
- At the hotel, pay the driver in cash (VND) or by VietQR (money in Vietnam). Tolls and the airport entry fee are already in the price.
If you can’t see your driver, stay where you are and message them or us on WhatsApp. Don’t go off with someone else holding a sign that looks like yours.
Skip the immigration queue
Queues at immigration can run past an hour when several long-haul flights land together. Fast-track immigration is an add-on in the booking box: an agent meets you as you come off the plane and takes you through a priority lane, and your driver is waiting on the other side.
How to avoid taxi scams at Tan Son Nhat
Most arrivals go smoothly, but the airport still has its share of drivers who prey on tired, jet-lagged visitors. Six things to know:
- Ignore people who approach you inside the terminal. Anyone who walks up offering a taxi or a “Grab” is not the cheapest option and is often not a licensed driver.
- Use the established taxi firms. Vinasun (white cars) and Mai Linh (green) are the long-standing metered companies. Copycat firms use similar colours and almost the same names, so check the name and phone number printed on the car.
- Watch the meter. If the driver says the meter is broken, or offers a “special price”, get out before the car leaves the kerb.
- Know the real airport fee. Cars pay 10,000–15,000₫ to use the airport, and metered taxis add it to the fare. A “100,000₫ airport toll” is invented.
- Know your notes. The 20,000₫ and 500,000₫ notes are both blue, and the 10,000₫ and 100,000₫ notes look alike. Hand them over one at a time and say the amount out loud.
- Ride-hailing apps work in the city, but you can’t choose the car, there’s no one to meet you and the driver changes every time. If you use one, app pickups at the international terminal are from lanes D1–D2 on the ground floor; only get in if the plate matches the app.
A car you’ve booked ahead removes all of this: a known driver, a known car, a fixed price, and someone waiting with your name when you walk out.
The cheapest way into the city
Public bus 109 runs from the airport to Ben Thanh market and the 23/9 Park bus station by the backpacker area, about every 15–20 minutes from 5:30 am to 1:30 am. It takes about 45 minutes and costs 15,000–20,000₫. It’s fine in daytime if you’re travelling light; with large cases after a long flight it’s hard work.
Staying in Saigon?
See what to do in the city, and the night markets and museums. For day trips with a car that waits for you: Cu Chi tunnels, the Can Gio mangrove forest and Tay Ninh and Ba Den mountain.
Going further than the city
Most of what we drive from Tan Son Nhat goes out of town. Going straight from the airport to the beach after a long-haul flight, without a night in Saigon, is the main reason people book us. The price table above has every route.
