What is Ke Ga, and who is it for?
Ke Ga is a rocky cape in Ham Thuan Nam, on the coast south-west of Phan Thiet (now part of Lam Dong province after the 2025 reorganisation). It has a long beach, a few resorts, a fishing village and Vietnam’s tallest lighthouse on a small island just offshore. There’s no strip of bars and shops. That’s the point.
It suits people who want a quiet beach within a Saigon weekend’s reach and don’t need nightlife. If you want kite schools, dozens of restaurants and somewhere to walk in the evening, Mui Ne is 35 km up the coast and a better base. If you want a resort, a beach with few people on it, and a lighthouse for a morning, Ke Ga does it.
How long is the drive from Saigon to Ke Ga?
A private car from Tan Son Nhat airport takes about 2¾ to 4 hours to Ke Ga, over roughly 170–190 km. That’s the same sort of time as the drive to Mui Ne, even though Ke Ga is the shorter trip on the map.
The reason is the road. The first part is quick: across Saigon to the Long Thanh–Dau Giay expressway, then onto the Dau Giay–Phan Thiet expressway, both tolled (our price includes the tolls). The driver leaves the expressway near its southern end and follows local roads down to the coast, which takes about half an hour and is slower than the expressway miles it replaces.
Getting out of Saigon is still the big variable. Land at 10 pm midweek and you can be at your resort a little after 1 am. Leave the airport at 5 pm on a Friday, or the day before a public holiday, and the first hour is a crawl. On the way back, leave about 5½ hours before an international flight.
The driver meets you at arrivals with your name on a sign and takes you to your resort’s lobby. A stop is easy to arrange: a coffee, a toilet, a bánh mì, or a longer one at the lighthouse. See the Saigon airport transfers page for where drivers wait at each terminal.
Ke Ga by bus, train, resort car or private car
Nothing public goes to Ke Ga itself. Buses and limousine vans run to Phan Thiet and Mui Ne from about 140,000₫ a seat, and the train to Binh Thuan station is slower again, but both leave you 30 km or more from the beach and in need of a taxi. That’s workable if you’re alone and don’t mind a change of vehicle. It’s less so with luggage, children or a late arrival.
Your resort’s own car is the other option. At Azerai Ke Ga Bay it has been listed at about 2.95 million ₫ per car (travel-site listing, undated), and resorts along this coast usually charge about twice what a booked private car costs for the same trip.
A booked car goes door to door at a time you choose, from the airport, for a fixed price you agree before you travel. You know the car and the driver’s name before you land, and the driver tracks your flight and waits up to 90 minutes without charge. It’s four hours or so, so we hold every driver to the same standard: no cigarette smoke in the car or on the driver, no overpowering air freshener, calm driving rather than leaning on the horn, working seatbelts and child seats on request.
Which car for Ke Ga
Choose by luggage as well as people. A sedan or electric VinFast is fine for two or three travellers with normal cases. Families of four or five, and tall adults, will be much more comfortable in a 7-seater (Innova, Xpander or Fortuner) on a drive this long. Golf bags, kite gear and a pram also belong in the 7-seater.
Groups can book the limousine van or the 16-seater. Add child seats when you book and put the children’s ages in the notes.
Things to do in Ke Ga
Ke Ga is a place for slow days. Most visitors spend them between the resort beach, the lighthouse and the villages inland.
Ke Ga lighthouse
The lighthouse stands on a small granite island about 500 metres off the cape. The French built it between 1897 and 1899, an octagonal granite tower that has worked since 1900. It’s the tallest lighthouse in Vietnam, and in December 2025 it was ranked as a historical and architectural monument.
You cross by a short boat ride from the shore, then climb about 180 spiral steps inside the tower for the view back over the coast. Local sites quote roughly 40,000–60,000₫ a head for the boat, with free entry in the daytime, but the price and the opening hours change, so ask at the landing. Go in the morning, in calm weather. When the sea is rough, boats don’t run.
The beach and the fishing village
The beach near the cape is long and sandy, with few people on it outside weekends and holidays. Small fishing boats work from the village by the headland, and you can buy fresh seafood nearby and have it cooked at a simple restaurant: ask the price per kilo first.
Ta Cu mountain
Ta Cu mountain is inland, in the hills towards the highway. It’s best known for a reclining Buddha about 49 metres long, and for the cable car and walking path up the mountain. It’s an easy half-day with a car and driver, and you can combine it with the lighthouse.
Where to stay in Ke Ga
The best-known resort is Azerai Ke Ga Bay, the former Princess d’An Nam, which reopened in 2023 after a full refurbishment on a long white-sand beach. There are also smaller resorts and bungalows along the same coast. For a base with more restaurants and activities, Mui Ne is a short drive up the coast, and you can stay there and take a car to the cape for the day.
Prices rise at weekends and holidays, when Saigon families fill the coast.
When to go, and what can go wrong
Ke Ga is dry for most of the year. November to April is sunny and windy, which means a livelier sea and sometimes a rougher boat to the lighthouse. From May to October it’s hotter and calmer, with short afternoon showers.
The drive is the part to plan around. Weekends, public holidays and Tết (early February in 2027) mean heavy traffic out of Saigon and a slow return on Sunday afternoon. If you can, travel midweek. The local road between the expressway and the coast is narrower than the expressway and slower behind trucks.
Onward from Ke Ga
Mui Ne is about 35 km and 40–60 minutes up the coast, and a car makes the two easy to combine: a few nights at a quiet resort, then the kite beaches. Closer still, about half an hour north, is the NovaWorld Phan Thiet resort development. Going the other way along the coast, La Gi and its beaches are further towards Vung Tau. From Mui Ne a private car also goes on to Da Lat.
