Book flights to Vietnam

To book flights to Vietnam, compare a few search engines against the airlines' own sites, fly midweek if you can, and check fares via Bangkok, Singapore or Hong Kong. Land in Saigon at Tan Son Nhat (SGN) or Hanoi (HAN).

What changed since 2008

In November 2008 this page recommended one US travel site because Vietnam Airlines tickets were hard to buy online from abroad. That is no longer the problem. Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet and the other carriers sell on their own sites and apps, and the old advice to price-compare is more useful than the old advice about one website.

Tips for cheaper fares

  • Fly midweek. Friday and Saturday departures are often the dearest, and a Tuesday or Thursday can save real money.
  • Use more than one search engine, then check the airline’s own site. Engines turn up carriers you might not have thought of.
  • Be flexible with the route. A fare to Bangkok, Singapore or Hong Kong, then a short hop to Vietnam, can cost less and pays for a few days there. See budget airlines to Vietnam for who flies those hops.
  • Check what the fare includes. Low-cost fares often charge extra for bags and seats, so compare the total.

Once you are in Vietnam

For internal flights, see our guide to domestic flights in Vietnam for airlines, terminals at Tan Son Nhat and 2026 route changes. Check the visa you need on our Vietnam visa page before you pay. When you land, a private car from the airport at a fixed price saves the argument at the taxi rank.

FAQ

Questions travellers ask us

Which airport should I fly into for Vietnam?

Tan Son Nhat (SGN) in Ho Chi Minh City for the south, Noi Bai (HAN) for Hanoi and the north, and Da Nang (DAD) for the centre. Long Thanh, Saigon's second airport, is not open to regular flights yet.

When is the cheapest day to fly?

Midweek departures are often cheaper than Fridays and Saturdays, though it varies by route and season. Check a week of dates side by side on a flight search engine.

Can I book Vietnam Airlines online?

Yes, on the airline's own website and app, and through travel agents and search engines. Compare what the fare includes before you pick the cheapest.
