Caffe Stella (Bui Vien)

Caffe Stella, the cafe-restaurant at 121 Bui Vien, is no longer trading at that address.

Our 2008 listing had Caffe Stella at 121 Bui Vien, serving international food at about $5-8 a head, a mid-priced option on the backpacker street. Today the building at 119-121 Bui Vien is home to Viet Star Buffet Club, with a hostel above it, according to the club’s own Facebook page and hotel listings. We found no current Caffe Stella at that address.

Where to eat on Bui Vien now

Bui Vien is mostly bars, beer, grilled seafood and tourist-menu restaurants, and it’s busiest after dark. For a sit-down Vietnamese meal near the entrance of the street, Lua Dai Viet at the Bui Vien and De Tham corner serves seafood. For quieter and cheaper, walk a few blocks to the lanes around Ben Thanh market.

More choices are in our Ho Chi Minh City guide, and for street food at night, see Saigon’s night markets.
