How far is Long Thanh airport from Ho Tram?
Ho Tram is roughly 80–100 km from Long Thanh International Airport (LTH), and a private car takes 1½ to 2 hours. Resort sites quote shorter figures of 65–78 km, but those are the straight line or the best-case route, so don’t count on them. Commercial flights are expected from about 1 December 2026.
For the resort strip, this is a big change. From Tan Son Nhat, Ho Tram is about 130 km and 2½ to 3¼ hours, and a long-haul arrival has to cross Saigon first. From Long Thanh you start on the east side of the city, and the trip is closer to 1½ to 2 hours.
The road from Long Thanh to Ho Tram
The car takes the Ho Chi Minh City–Long Thanh–Dau Giay expressway and the Bien Hoa–Vung Tau expressway, which are connected at the Long Thanh interchange, opened in full on 6 June 2026. The Bien Hoa–Vung Tau expressway is open to vehicles with fewer than 9 seats, so sedans and 7-seaters use it. From the end of the expressway the last stretch runs along the coast roads to the resorts.
An expressway of about 41 km, joining Ho Tram and the Xuyen Moc resort area directly to the airport, has been proposed, and VnExpress reported a US$1.67 billion price in April 2026. It isn’t built, so the times on this page are for the roads as they are.
Free resort shuttle or a booked car?
The honest answer is that if you’re already in central Saigon and you’re staying at The Grand Ho Tram, the free shuttle costs nothing. The Grand says the trip takes about 3 hours, runs from set pickup points in the city on a set timetable, needs advance reservation and carries only its guests. Meliá Ho Tram lists a free shuttle subject to availability and a private car on request. Neither one is an airport pickup.
That leaves the case for a booked car: it meets you at arrivals, waits for a late flight, leaves when you’re ready, and takes you to any resort on the strip, not only those two. The driver tracks your flight and you get 90 minutes of free waiting. For a couple or a family landing at night after a long flight, that’s usually worth the fare. The price table above shows what it costs, and the vehicle choice below.
We hold drivers to the standard that matters on a trip this long: non-smoking cars, working seatbelts, no strong air freshener, a cabin filter that’s changed, and calm driving with the horn used sparingly.
Which car for Ho Tram, golf bags and all
Golfers should book a 7-seater or a van. Golf bags are long and awkward, and two bags plus two cases won’t fit in a VinFast. The Bluffs Ho Tram Strip, the Greg Norman course at The Grand, is the main reason people bring clubs. Families of four or five, especially tall ones, should also take the 7-seater.
A sedan or VinFast suits two people with normal luggage. Child seats are available on request when you book. Groups of eight or more can book a limousine van or 16-seater.
Where you’re going: the Ho Tram strip
Ho Tram is a long, quiet beach with a cluster of resorts: The Grand Ho Tram (an InterContinental, with a casino and The Bluffs golf course), Holiday Inn Resort Ho Tram Beach, Meliá Ho Tram Beach Resort, Ixora Ho Tram by Fusion and smaller places such as Carmelina and Ho Tram Beach Boutique Resort & Spa. Any hotel on the strip works: choose “Any hotel in Ho Tram” in the booking box and type the name at checkout. Our main Ho Tram page covers the beach, the food and when to go.
Meeting your driver at Long Thanh
Drivers wait in the arrivals hall with your name on a sign. The exact meeting point inside the terminal hasn’t been published, and we’ll send it to you once it is.
- Book in the box above and put your flight number in the notes.
- You get the driver’s name, photo and number plate the evening before.
- Your driver tracks the flight and waits up to 90 minutes after landing.
- You pay the driver at your resort, in dong or by VietQR. Tolls are in the price.
A stop on the way is fine: a coffee, a toilet or a stop at the Binh Chau hot springs before you check in.
Honest limits
The opening date has moved before. If it moves again we’ll contact you and move or cancel the booking free of charge. Weekends are busy in Ho Tram, and Sunday afternoon traffic back toward Saigon is slow. Tet, the Lunar New Year (early February in 2027), is the other time to avoid. The coast roads at the end of the trip are slower than the expressway, and nobody can promise a single time: the range above is what to expect.
Going back to the airport
For an international flight from Long Thanh, leave your Ho Tram resort about 4 hours before departure. That covers a 1½ to 2 hour drive, check-in and security. Book the return as a separate trip, or ask for a driver to wait at the resort. If you’re stopping at Vung Tau first, our Long Thanh to Vung Tau page has the drive and the expressway rules. The Long Thanh airport overview has the opening status.
Stops worth asking for
- Service stops on the expressway: Fuel, toilets and coffee before the coast road. Ask the driver if you want to stop.
- Binh Chau hot springs: Minera Hot Springs is a few kilometres inland from the Ho Tram strip. A short detour if you want a soak before you check in.
