How far is Long Thanh airport from Mui Ne?
Long Thanh International Airport (LTH) is about 170 km from Mui Ne, and a private car takes 2¾ to 3¾ hours. It’s in Dong Nai, about 40 km east of central Saigon, beside the Long Thanh–Dau Giay expressway. A car from the terminal is on the expressway almost straight away, and doesn’t cross Saigon at all. That’s what makes it the best airport for Mui Ne, once it opens.
The same trip from Tan Son Nhat usually takes 3–4 hours, and as little as 2½ on a clear run, because the first stretch is across the city. Phan Thiet is on the way, so the same car and price cover it.
Is Long Thanh airport open?
Not yet for regular flights. The airport had its ceremonial technical opening on 19 December 2025. The operator, ACV, said in July 2026 that commercial operations are planned from 1 December 2026, with Vietnamese airlines moving first. That date has moved before, and which airlines and which flights will move hasn’t been announced in detail, so check your ticket and the airline’s notices. Our Long Thanh airport page tracks the status.
Until then, every international flight into Saigon lands at Tan Son Nhat. You can book this transfer now for a pickup date after the opening; if the opening moves, we’ll contact you to move the booking or cancel it free of charge.
The road from Long Thanh to Mui Ne
The route is two expressways. You join the Long Thanh–Dau Giay expressway at the airport, then continue onto the Dau Giay–Phan Thiet expressway, 99 km long, and leave it near Phan Thiet. From there it’s 20 to 40 minutes along the coast to the Mui Ne strip, depending on where your resort is. Both expressways are tolled, and our price includes the tolls.
The range depends on the time of day and the day of the week. Friday evenings, the day before a public holiday and Tết can slow even the expressways near Long Thanh, and a wet-season downpour slows everyone. Midweek mornings and late evenings are the quickest.
The driver meets you in arrivals with your name on a sign and takes you to your resort’s lobby. If your flight is late, we track it and wait up to 90 minutes after landing at no charge. Immigration queues in Vietnam can run past an hour, and you can add fast-track immigration when you book.
Bus, train or a private car from Long Thanh
There’s no public way to do this trip well yet. The rail link to Long Thanh isn’t built, and the buses to Mui Ne leave from Saigon, so a bus means getting into the city first and out again. A booked private car does it in one go.
After a long flight, we hold every driver to a standard that matters on a drive of three hours: a non-smoking car, no heavy air freshener, calm driving with sparing use of the horn, working seatbelts and child seats on request. A resort’s own car is the other option, usually at a higher price. For Mui Ne resorts, listed prices run about $110–160 per car from Saigon.
Mui Ne to the airport, the other way
For the return, leave Mui Ne about 5 hours before an international departure from Long Thanh, and a little longer at weekends. The same price applies in both directions. For where to go next, Mui Ne and Phan Thiet has the guide, and a car can carry on to Da Lat or Nha Trang.
Stops worth asking for
- Long Thanh expressway rest area: A coffee and toilet stop within the first half hour, before the long run to Phan Thiet.
- Phan Thiet, for lunch: If you land at midday, a seafood lunch before the strip is a pleasant way to break the trip. Ask for a stop on the way when you book.
- Ke Ga lighthouse: A short detour towards the coast for the lighthouse and the beach, about 1½–2 hours for the visit.
