Bun cha is the Hanoi lunch dish: grilled pork patties and slices in a sweet-sour broth, served with cold rice noodles and a pile of herbs, often with fried spring rolls (nem). A 2008 food blog covered this restaurant at 140 Vo Thi Sau, and our old listing put a meal at $2 or less. We found no recent reviews or posts for it, so we can’t say it’s still there.
Finding bun cha in Saigon now
Hanoi-style bun cha places are common in District 3 and around Vo Thi Sau; some are in the alleys off the main street. Pick somewhere busy at lunchtime, when the charcoal is lit and the turnover is high, and ask the price before you sit. Our “how to order” phrases are in the Vietnamese restaurant phrases.
For the wider picture, see the Ho Chi Minh City guide and Saigon’s night markets. If you’re in the capital, bun cha is a Hanoi staple; see our Hanoi page.
