Is An Lam Retreats Saigon River actually in Saigon?
Yes, since 2025. The resort sits on the Saigon River bank at 21/4 Trung Street, Vinh Phu ward, in Thuan An, a town that belonged to Binh Duong province until the provincial merger. Older listings still say “Binh Duong” and many maps place it on the wrong side of the river, which matters when a driver is typing the address into a phone. It is on the Thuan An bank, north of the city and well away from the District 1 and Thao Dien hotel districts.
Boat or car, which one do guests take?
The hotel’s own line is that it is “a 25-minute boat ride from the busy centre”, and it runs a complimentary shared speedboat for guests. The boat leaves from two points: Bach Dang Wharf at 10B Ton Duc Thang in District 1 (the Saigon Waterbus Station) and Binh An Waterbus Station on the Thu Duc side. Booking.com’s house rules ask for 48 hours’ notice, and the boat costs extra before 7:00 and after 19:00. That makes the boat the pleasant way in on a clear day in the city, and the road the way in from the airport: with luggage off a long-haul flight you do not want to transfer to a pier first. The boat pick-up points are in District 1, not at Tan Son Nhat.
How far is An Lam from the airport by road?
Further than the boat time suggests. Expect a drive of about 45 to 90 minutes from Tan Son Nhat, because the route runs through the north of the city and the traffic is heavy in the late afternoon. A guest forum post claiming the airport is “a little over 8 km” away is wrong. A booked car with the flight tracked is the straightforward option, because the driver waits if the plane is late, and the hotel’s own boat does not run in the middle of the night.
What is An Lam known for?
It is a garden resort, not a tower: 35 villas and suites under tropical canopy, a Jungle Spa, a riverside pool, a restaurant called Luc Binh and a butler for each guest. Michelin’s hotel guide lists the property, and the resort has been open for about 15 years according to a 2025 Thanh Nien feature. Guests on Tripadvisor mention that the boat can carry them to the Cu Chi tunnels as well, which the resort arranges as an excursion.
Can a car take you from An Lam to Cu Chi, Can Gio or Mui Ne?
The resort is better placed for the north than most city hotels. Cu Chi is a shorter road trip from here than from District 1, and the car can wait while you walk the tunnels. Can Gio is on the far side of the city and a full day. For the coast, Mui Ne takes 3 to 4 hours from here, because you cross the city first, and Vung Tau 2½ to 3½.
