Hotel Grand Saigon or Grand Hotel Saigon?
The same hotel is listed under both names. The street address is the safe one: 8 Dong Khoi. Do not confuse it with the Sheraton Saigon Grand Opera or the Eastin Grand, which are different hotels elsewhere in District 1.
The hotel dates its story from 1930, and its own marketing says it has more than 95 years of history. Guest reviews describe an original wing with high ceilings and classic decor, with a newer tower beside it, and say the rooms differ between the two. If you want the old building, ask for it when you book.
How far is the Grand from the airport, and what does its car cost?
About 8 km, 30 to 60 minutes. The hotel offers a paid transfer on request. One platform lists USD 65 per vehicle one way for up to three passengers, another lists VND 1,500,000 (both Oct 2026), and TripAdvisor guests report older charges that were higher than quoted. Use the written quote before you land.
Three passengers is the cap on that car, so it is a sedan price. For four people with luggage you need a 7-seater, whoever you book with.
Which end of Dong Khoi is it?
Number 8 is at the river end, close to the Majestic at number 1, and the hotel’s own site places it on “the iconic Dong Khoi Street”. The street runs up to the Opera House and on to Notre-Dame Cathedral. Give the driver 8 Dong Khoi and the car stops on the street at the door.
What is there to do on foot?
Dong Khoi’s galleries and shops are at the door, the river is a few minutes away and the Opera House is a walk up the street. Evenings are easy: the bars and restaurants are on the same street and the Bach Dang riverside is close for the lights over the water.
Going on from the Grand
An early start helps, because the centre fills from mid-morning. Mui Ne is 2½ hours on a clear run, typically 3 to 4. Can Tho is 2½ to 3½ and Vung Tau 1½ to 2½. A Cu Chi half-day with the car waiting is a common day out from here.
Old wing or new tower: does it change the pickup?
Not the pickup, but the check-in. The hotel’s own pages say the building has been restored and keeps its original French architecture, and reviewers say the older rooms feel different from the newer ones. Both are served from the same front door at 8 Dong Khoi, so the car and the driver’s instructions are identical. For a late-night arrival, the Dong Khoi frontage is quiet after the bars close, and the doormen are at the door.
