Why does Marina Bay suit a transfer by car?
It’s a boutique-sized resort on the sea-front road rather than in the thick of Vung Tau’s beach strip, and a car gets you to the lobby without the tour-bus stop at the end. Marina Bay has 106 rooms, a freshwater pool, a saltwater infinity pool, a children’s pool and three restaurants (SOI, Ocean Bay and Il Mare), so many guests stay in for a night or two after the drive. Check the hotel for current breakfast terms; the resort says breakfast is included.
How does the new expressway change the trip?
The Bien Hoa–Vung Tau expressway is the main change. It’s free for now, restricted to vehicles under 9 seats, and a car now takes 80–130 minutes where the old Highway 51 took 2½ hours or more. Our Vung Tau page has the comparison with the hydrofoil and the limousine buses, which drop you at a bus office rather than at Tran Phu. Hydrofoils land at the town pier and you still need a taxi to the resort.
What is Vung Tau like around the resort?
It’s the calmer end. The Sao Mai church is a few minutes’ walk, and the town centre’s seafood restaurants are a short ride. A weekday stay here is far quieter than Back Beach at the weekend; The Imperial on Thuy Van is the big, busy alternative.
Is the sea good for swimming?
The resort has its own pools and beach access. Vung Tau’s town beaches are best early morning and late afternoon, and busy on Saturdays from Saigon.
Going on from Marina Bay
A booked car takes you to Ho Tram’s resorts (Meliá, Dhawa) in 45–60 minutes, to Binh Chau, Mui Ne or either Saigon airport. The table below lists the routes.
