The tower was built from 1968 and opened on 21 December 1971, 15 storeys of grid-patterned modernist concrete in what was then the American-era centre of Saigon. A Vietnamese architecture journal records that Bong Sen Corporation restored the building in 2023, stripping later additions to bring the original facade back. It now has 144 rooms, a pool and a rooftop beer garden on the 15th floor with a sky lounge on the 14th.
The old listing on this site noted the Lemongrass restaurant and the panoramic river view from the upper floors; the hotel’s own site now lists the Buffet Ganh restaurant on the 5th floor instead, and the metro station and Bach Dang Park among the places close by.
Is the Palace Hotel far from the airport?
About 8 km. Thirty minutes is possible at night; 45 to 60 is normal in the day. The approach comes in through the Dong Khoi area, so late afternoon is the slow window.
How do I get a car to the Palace?
The hotel does not publish a transfer price. Its site gives a reservations line and an email, and booking platforms describe airport transfer as on request. Cheap Grab-style fares exist, but this page is for the booked car: you know the vehicle, the price and the driver before you land.
A single traveller or a couple needs only a sedan; the hotel’s rooms are not family-sized apart from its Family Suite, and a 7-seater makes sense when there are four of you with bags.
Which side of the tower is the entrance?
The address is 56-66 Nguyen Hue, which covers the width of the building. Nguyen Hue is the pedestrian boulevard, so the car cannot pull up on the walking section. Tell the driver “Palace Hotel, 56 Nguyen Hue” and ask for the nearest open drop, then walk down to the entrance. Both the Opera House and the Dong Khoi shops are within a few minutes’ walk.
Going on from the Palace
The Palace’s position near the river end of Nguyen Hue makes a morning start easy. Mui Ne is 2½ hours on a clear run and 3 to 4 typically. Can Tho is 2½ to 3½ and Vung Tau 1½ to 2½. For a half-day out and back with the car waiting, look at Cu Chi or Can Gio.
