Saigon Domaine is not in District 1, and its pitch depends on that. The residences stand on Thanh Da, a river peninsula in Binh Thanh District that the hotel’s website calls “an island within the city”, with a green bank for jogging, cycling and fishing and almost none of the traffic noise of the centre. Booking.com describes it as sitting on a preserved piece of Thanh Da, run by the Thanh Da Riviera joint venture. The old listing here called it a four-star with spacious apartments, a river view and free boat rides to the downtown; the facts that still hold are the river and the space.
How long is the drive from Tan Son Nhat to Binh Quoi?
Longer than a District 1 run. The airport and Binh Thanh are both on the north side of the centre, so you stay clear of the old quarter, but it is a cross-town run through Binh Thanh rather than a straight shot, and the afternoon peak adds time. Allow 40 to 70 minutes.
Who is a car for here?
This is a stay-for-a-week property: 45 units, mostly with kitchens, from a 72 m² one-bedroom with a 6 m² balcony to penthouses with large terraces. Families and long-stay guests arrive with a lot of luggage, so a 7-seater is a reasonable pick for a family of four or five. There is nothing to walk to from the gate, so a car is how you get to dinner, which makes arranging the airport run with a return on departure day worthwhile.
What about the free boat or shuttle to downtown?
The website says “highlight the free boat ride to city centre by day and night”, and Booking.com reviews mention a free minibus to the centre. A notice on the home page now reads that only city buses are available, following a schedule. Treat the boat and minibus as something to confirm with reception on the day, and plan to taxi when you need to be somewhere by a fixed time.
Does the hotel run its own airport transfer?
Booking.com lists an airport shuttle for the property but publishes no fee, and the hotel’s site gives no price either. Ask reception in writing, with your flight number, before you compare it with a fixed-price car.
What is there to do on the peninsula?
Walks and bike rides on the riverbank, the pool and the spa at the hotel, and short drives to the riverside restaurants of Binh Quoi. For evenings in the centre, plan on a car both ways; Saigon’s traffic is worth a read if you are timing a late dinner.
Leaving Binh Quoi for the coast or the delta
The north-east side of town helps on departure day: you skip some central streets, and Vung Tau is about 1½ to 2½ hours, Mui Ne 2½ hours on a clear run and typically 3 to 4, and Can Tho 2½ to 3½. Can Gio is a day trip with the car waiting.
